A Personal Review of the LifeCycle C3 5 Exercise Bike
I have to admit that I know next to nothing about exercise bikes but I bought a R3-5 LifeCycle upright - doctors orders - and have been using it a couple of times each day. It was an expensive purchase and I was really unsure if I was doing the right thing in buying it, but I have to say that I love it and think it was money well spent.
My doctor ordered me to loose weight and do some exercise. I weighed 250 lbs and am only 5 feet 9 inches tall and he told me that I was placing a terrible strain on my heart and that if I didnt do something about it, one day it would pack up entirely. Im only 29 years of age and hearing this got me down.
Anyhow, I was determined on losing the weight and doing some exercise. Changing my diet, though difficult, was easy in some respects; as I knew the foods I should be avoiding and what I should be eating. However, when it came to doing exercise I was at a total loss. Id never ever done any and didnt have a clue on how to go about it. It was my doctor who came to the rescue; he advised me to use a recumbent exercise bike.
Well, I began searching for one and after a while I came across LifeCycle exercise bikes. My research found out that the manufacturer (Life Fitness) made the best exercise bikes although there were very expensive. Anyhow, I decided that I would spend the money; my health was worth it.
At first I was going to buy a recumbent bike as I was told that these were more comfortable for people who are overweight. However, after trying out various models I just preferred everything about the C3-5 upright model, so I went ahead and bought it instead. It cost $2,000 - spending this kind of money was a real incentive in sticking to an exercise regime.
The first thing I liked about the bike was that its self-powered so theres no need to plug it in; you just get on it and start pedaling. Its a very quiet machine and the console is easy to follow and use. You get both wireless and contact heart rate monitors. It comes with 10 motivational workout programs, including five heart rate controlled workouts designed to keep you in your target heart rate zone.
The heart rate controlled workouts are my favorite feature. You enter in which of the 5 heart rate programs you want and for how long. You also enter in your age - the computer in the console works out your recommended heart rate; its so easy even I can use it! After youve done this you start pedaling. At first you go into a warm-up phase but the resistance is gradually increased until, after a few minutes, it got me up to my recommended heart rate of 160bpm. Whats really nice is that it will constantly adjust the difficulty to keep my heart rate in the recommended zone. You cant cheat either; if you slow down, the resistance increases. Theres also a cooling down period at the end of the workout. I really love this feature its just such a breeze to use; just punch in a few figures and it works out everything.
Well, Ive been using my LifeCycle exercise bike for several months now and Ive already lost 25 lbs! I wish I had done something about my health a few years back; but Im pleased Ive started and know Ill stick with it.
